Operation Mincemeat to Embark on UK Tour

Operation Mincemeat, the WhatsOnStage Award-winning musical, is set to embark on a world tour, beginning with an extended UK tour in early 2026. The musical comedy, written and composed by David Cumming, Felix Hagan, Natasha Hodgson, and Zoë Roberts of SpitLip, is based on the true story of the secret mission that helped win World War II.

About Operation Mincemeat and Its Journey

First seen off-West End in 2019, Operation Mincemeat had developmental runs at the New Diorama Theatre, Southwark Playhouse, and Riverside Studios. The musical, which mixes dark humour and history, quickly garnered attention for its unique take on a vital moment in wartime history.

The new UK tour will run for 40 weeks, starting with an opening performance at the Lowry in Salford on 16 February 2026, with additional tour stops to be revealed soon.

A Homecoming for Operation Mincemeat

SpitLip reflected on their journey, saying: "Broadway opened the literal world to us, and we couldn’t be more grateful for every unpredictable twist of this astonishing journey. Most of all, we wish to thank the audiences who continue to carry this show with love and enthusiasm." The tour marks a homecoming of sorts for the production, as it had its first-ever showing at The Lowry in 2017 during a scratch night.

The musical's themes of unity and resilience resonate more than ever, especially as the show will now play in multiple nations around the world. SpitLip added: “Operation Mincemeat reminds us that in uncertain times, the bonds between allies are more important than ever.”

The Creative Team Behind the Operation Mincemeat Tour

The production is directed by Robert Hastie (Standing at the Sky’s Edge), who provided directorial support for the Riverside Studios run. Choreography is by Jenny Arnold (Jerry Springer: The Opera). The creative team also includes:

  • Set and Costume Designer: Ben Stones (Sylvia)

  • Lighting Designer: Mark Henderson (Girl from the North Country)

  • Sound Designer: Mike Walker (Jerry Springer: The Opera)

  • Orchestrator and Vocal Arranger: Steve Sidwell (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical)

  • Associate Director: Georgie Staight

Casting is by Pearson Casting, with full details of the cast to be revealed soon.

The show, which is also running on Broadway and was recently nominated for four Tony Awards, continues its global journey, reaching new audiences around the world.

Operation Mincemeat is presented in the West End by Avalon (in association with SpitLip), who have supported the show since its runs at Southwark Playhouse. The musical was initially commissioned by New Diorama Theatre, co-commissioned by The Lowry, and also supported by The Rhine.
